It Came upon Midnight Clear (그 맑고 환한 밤중에)

1. It came upon the midnight clear,

그 맑고 환한 밤중에
That glorious song of old,
뭇 천사 내려와
From angels bending near the earth,
그 손에 비파 들고서
To touch their harps of gold
다 찬송하기를
"Peace on the earth, good will to men.
평강의 왕이 오시니
From heaven's all gracious King."
다 평안하여라
The world in solemn stillness lay
그 소란하던 세상이
To hear the angels sing.
다 고요하도다

2. Still through the cloven skies they come,

뭇 천사 날개 펴고서
With peaceful wings unfurled,
이 땅에 내려와
And still their heavenly music floats
그때에 부른 노래가
O'er all the weary world
또 다시 들리니
Above its sad and lowly plain
이 슬픔 많은 세상에
They bend on hov-ering wing,
큰 위로 넘치고
And ever o'er its Babel sounds
온 세상 기뻐 뛰놀며
The blessed angels sing.

3. And ye, beneath life's crushing load,

이 괴롬 많은 세상에
Whose forms are bending low,
짐 지고 가는 자
Who toil along the climbing way,
그 험산준령 넘느라
With painful steps and slow,
온 몸이 곤하나
Look now, for glad and golden hours
이 죄악 세상살 동안
Come swiftly on the wing
새 소망 가지고
O rest beside the weary road,
저 천사 기쁜 찬송을
And hear the angels sing.

4. For lo, the days are hastening on,

옛 선지 예언 응하여
By propher bards foretold,
베들레험 성중에
When, with the evercircling years,
주 예수 탄생하시니
Comes round the age of gold
온 세상 구주라
When peace shall over all the earth
저 천사 기쁜 노래를
Its ancient splendors fling,
또 다시 부르니
And the whole world give back the song
온 세상 사는 사람들
Which now the angels sing.
