Matthew 6:1~4 (마태복음 6:1~4)

1 "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them, If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

1 사람에게 보이려고 그들 앞에서 너희 의를 행치 않도록 주의하라 그렇지 아니하면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 상을 얻지 못하느니라

2 " So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have recieved their reward in full.

2 그러므로 구제할 대에 외식하는 자가 사람에게 영광을 얻으려고 회당과 거리에서 하는 것같이 너희 앞에 나팔을 불지 말라 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 저희는 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라

needy 곤궁한

hypocrite 위선자 (hypocrisy 위선)

as the hypocrites do in the synagogues는 as the hypocrites announce it with trumpets in the synagogues의 의미이며, 이 때 do는 대동사(代動詞)

to he honored by men은 '사람들에 의해서 높임을 받기 위하여' (to 부정사 부사적 용법, '~하기 위하여'의 의미

reward는 '보상', '보답'의 뜻 

3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. 

3 너는 구제할 때에 오른손의 하는 것을 왼손이 모르게 하여

 

4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  

4 네 구제함이 은밀하게 하라 은밀한 중에 보시는 너의 아버지가 갚으시리라

so~ that~ may~는 '~하기 위하여', '~하도록',

what is done in secret(=what you do in secret)은 '비밀로 행해진 일'
