Matthew 8:23~34 (마태복음 8:23~34) 

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.

23 배에 오르시매 제자들이 좇았더니

24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.

24 바다에 큰 놀이 일어나 물결이 배에 덮이게 되었으되 예수는 주무시는지라

sweep 세차게 불어가다 쓸다 청소하다

come up은 (폭풍 등이) 일어나다,

so that the waves swept~ : '그래서 파도가 휘몰아쳤다'는 의미이며 so that은 '결과의 so that'dmfh '~한 결과 그래서'의 의미

 

25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord save us! We're going to drown."

25 그제자들이 나아와 깨우매 가로되 주여 구원하소서 우리가 죽겠나이다

26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?".

Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

26 예수께서 이르시되 어찌하여 무서워하느냐 믿음이 적은 자들아 하시고

곧 일어나사 바람과 바다를 꾸짖으신대 아주 잔잔하게 되거늘

You of little faith 믿음이 없는 너희들 ('of + 추상명사'는 형용사처럼 쓰임 (예)  a man of wealth, a man of letters 등

27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

27 그 사람들이 기이이 여겨 가로되 이 어떠한 사람이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는고 하더라

28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.

28 또 예수께서 건너편 가다라 지방에 가시매 귀신들린 자 둘이 무덤 사이에서 나와 예수를 만나

저희는 심히 사나와 아무도 그 길로 지나 갈 수 없을 만하더라

two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs는 '무덤에서 나오던 두 명의 귀신들린 사람들' (coming은 현재분사로 two demon-possessed men을 수식함)

THey were so violent that~은 '그들은 매우 난폭해서 ~였다' (so~that~: 매우 ~이어서 ~이다)

 

29 "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted.

"Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?"

29 이에 저희가 소리질러 가로되 하나님의 아들이여 우리와 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까

때가 이르기 전에 우리를 괴롭게 하려고 여기 오셨나이까 하더니

torture 고문하다 

30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.

30 마침 멀리서 많은 돼지떼가 먹고 있는지라

herd (소, 말 등의) 떼, 군중,  

31 The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."

31 귀신들이 예수께 간구하여 가로되 만일 우리를 쫓아내실찐대 돼지떼에게 들여 보내소서 한대

32 He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs,

and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

32 저희더러 가라 하시니 귀신들이 나와서 돼지에게로 들어가는지라

온 떼가 비탈로 내리달아 바다에 들어가서 물에서 몰사하거늘

33 Thoes tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this,

including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.

33 치던 자들이 달아나 시내에 들어가 이 모든 일과 귀신 들린 자의 일을 고하니

tend (가축을) 지키다, 돌보다

tending(돌보다)은 현재분사로 those를 수식

including what had happened to the demon-possessed men은 '귀신들린 사람들에게 일어났던 일을 포함해서' (including은 '~을 포함해서' (예) Six countries, including Korea joined the project. '한국을 포함해서 6개국이~')

34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus.

And when they saw him, thet pleaded with him to leave their region.

34 온 시내가 예수를 만나려고 나가서 보고 그 지방에서 떠나시기를 간구하더라

plead 탄원하다 

plead with a person to+동사의 원형 ~에게 ~할 것을 탄원/간청하다
